Keyword research has many benefits

Keyword research has many benefits, the most popular reasons being trend insight into the market. While it is not a crystal ball, if done correctly, keyword optimization can keep you ahead of the curve on and on your competitors when market conditions or buyers’ preferences begin to change.

Insights into current market trends

If your keyword research is thorough it can give you insights into current market and marketing trends and also provide you with some insights into the way the market is beginning to evolve.

That in turn makes you focus all forms of your content on relevant topics that your potential clients or customers want to see and not what you think they should see. It replaces feelings with hard and factual market data.

This was probably one of the hardest parts of content creation for me to understand. It wasn’t what I wanted to write about, it was what my clients’ clients were searching for and how a blog or article or landing page might best attract those customers’ attention.

Organic traffic growth

If you are going to spend hours on keyword research – and sometimes it can take days to drill down into search intent, then one of your main goals has to be organic traffic growth

Once you have identified the best fitting keywords for your product or service and you know the market size or the number of searches that are statistically likely to arise from using these keywords.

This in turn should shape your decision on whether the keyword is financially worth it to you for use in organic traffic as well as paid traffic.

If the search volume says only 10 people searched worldwide for this exact keyword or longtail keyword or topic,  then it might not make a whole lot of sense in spending time and money chasing that market. A high-ticket price on your product or service might make it worth your while if you were to turn just 10% of that search volume to a lead or sale.

If you do spend the time identifying the best fit-keywords for the content you publish, it will push you up the rankings in SERPs (Search engine results pages.)

That in turn will lead to more traffic being attracted to your website.

Customer acquisition

That traffic will help with customer acquisition only if your content has specific CTAs (Call to Action) that will take them on a buyer’s journey or through a sales funnel.

This has to be a seamless journey to move from people noticing you right up to people being raving fans.

Search intent

By using tools to search for keyword popularity, search volume, and general intent, you can begin to answer the questions your ideal client is asking.

Included also in search intent are topics. Google continues to evolve almost on a monthly basis and its algorithms are now able to match topics as well as keywords.

However, keywords themselves because Google has evolved beyond exact-match algorithms.

The intent behind a search may not be linked to a keyword but a set of keywords that forms a topic.

However, keyword research is certainly not outdated because keyword research not alone will give you keywords but also the topics that people want to read about.

For example, somebody might use green tea as a keyword but green tea and weight loss could be the topic and content should be created around that topic and its sub-topics.

Saves time and money

Without this research, you may be targeting the wrong keywords, which will not bring you the traffic that you are looking for.

When you make a decision about how to market your product, it is important to start with what keywords you are going to market. It is important that you understand what your target audience is looking for so that you can use this information to help identify the right keywords for your business.

That can save you a lot of hours and a lot of money even in the short term.
